KIT Book Notes - 2015

I communicate with parents on a regular basis to both inform them of issues as well as celebrate the positives.  Here are some examples of communication with parents:

Term 2-3 2015
Coach of 'A' Netball Team.  This required weekly after school practices, as well as attending the Monday night games.

KIT Book Note - Feb 2016

Feb 2016
Students and parents completed a survey based on strengths, weaknesses and goals for 2016.  It was the first time I had surveyed parents in this manner, and I found extremely worthwhile and insightful.  Will definitely make this an annual thing.

Term 3 - 2016
We have had some amazing and inspirational visitors in my class over the past few months.  This included Kayla Whitelock (Black Sticks captain), a visit from an NH90 from the NZ Airforce and Ashley Biddle from the NZ Navy.  These are examples of how I am collaborating with our community and the resources we have around us.

Celebrating Success
During Term 3 of 2016, we celebrated student success in many ways.  In addition to weekly certificates in assembly, many students in my class received recognition for a wide variety of things, including the Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award and a first placing for our Year 8 Mathex Team.

24 November 2016
I've had several notes, emails and comments thanking me for running our class camp to Nydia Bay.  Here is a sample:

22 February 2017
Made phone calls to the parents of key students to discuss how the students have settled into the year, and to identify goals.  Summary of my discussion is below:

Spoke to *.  Explained that * has had a generally positive start to the year.  I outlined my concerns and goals for * around his organisation.  Made it clear that reading needs to be happening every night.  * 100% supportive.

Spoke to *.  Said that * has had a positive start to the year, and that I've been impressed with her work ethic and high standards of presentation.  We talked about how I can support * with her confidence issues - improving this is her most important goal.  * very supportive.

Spoke to *.  Said that * has had a great start to the year.  We talked about how far * has come since she joined our school (eg. organised sports like flippaball used to be a trigger for anxiety, now she loves it).  Also talked about how * needs to widen her circle of friends.  All positive.

March 2017
As a way to promote our school values, my class made this video.  It was lots of fun!

Term 1, 2017
It has become my responsibility to maintain our school facebook page.  This is a new initiative we have started this year as a way to keep parents informed about what is happening at school.  So far, we have had lots of positive feedback.

6 April 2017
Our class blog is an important way for us to share what happens in our class, with parents and the community.  I encourage parents to comment on the blog, and many do.  I will continue to look for ways to engage parents in our blog.

12 April 2017
In Term 2, our school will have a focus on Tikanga Maori.  I shared all my resources and planning from the last time we did a unit like this in 2013.  Hopefully that will support teachers and give them some ideas for activities they could do with their class.

21 June 2017
I believe that events such as the Staff vs Students Patter Tennis match build morale and team spirit.  As the organiser of these events, I see so many benefits.  Especially when the staff win!

June 2017
Here is a sample of some of the feedback I received from parents following the mid-year reports that were sent home:

Term 2-3 2017
This year I have again coached our Senior A netball team.  This involved a mid week after school practice and a Monday night game.  This is an excellent way for me to build positive relationships with the senior students, and their parents.
